Chairs, Chairs and More Chairs

I'm almost finished reupholstering a chair this week. It was an old chair my neighbor threw out that I felt I needed to save. Was it worth risking tetanus for? Maybe. You be the judge.

I do love the Ralph Lauren 'Poolside Floral' fabric. Ceylon et Cie had some chairs in their shop with this fabric and when I saw it on eBay I just had to have it for my chair. I do love blue and white porcelain and I thought this fabric was a modern twist on the idea.

Too bad I have too many chairs and not enough space. My husband had issued a moratorium on bringing home any furniture that is not free. I am loving this Adah Chair from Pier 1:

And it's on sale! It is so lovely, with that 'aged' patina. Sniff. Why do we always want what we can't have?

Summer Flowers

It's so hot out there, I'm amazed that plants are still thriving. My hydrangea bush actually has a lot of blooms this year - so many that I had to cut some of them because the grass underneath is not getting any sun. I also had to cut some gladioli that I have out front because they were starting to droop. Which meant that I had plenty of fresh flowers to liven up our house. I have to admit that it makes our little cottage a little more cozier with punches of color.

I love Hydrangeas - here they are on my newly painted console, which I finished this week. Gotta love that faux bamboo! Here's the before pic:

I have the gladioli sitting on the bar counter which I use as my mini-office:

A few extra sprigs of gladioli on my stairway shelf:

All My Children

I definitely have a hoarding problem. I can't seem to stop buying stuff off of eBay or craigslist. I can't resist a good deal! Too bad I don't have space to put them - I live in 'The Smurf House' as my niece puts it - it's a 1950's cape cod with the tiniest rooms ever. (I love it, it's charming and cozy, but it doesn't leave enough room for my collection of furniture and home items. ) So I have a bunch of beautiful things in storage. Here are some of my 'children' that are currently in storage:

I got this midcentury lotus lamp off of eBay:

The same lamp is available at C. Bell and at 1st Dibs. I'm afraid to use it in my living room lest my 20-month old breaks it into a million pieces.

I'm also afraid he might break these babies I got from eBay:

I have been looking for these gourd shaped lamps ever since I saw those blue ones in Ivanka Trump's apartment. I love them - they are my Christopher Spitzmiller lamps on a budget.

And I have more lamps! I have these pagoda shaped lamps from HomeGoods:

I'm thinking of painting them white. They have fluted shades that are in this horrible red flocked with black damask-like fabric. Yuck. I think they should have linen or raffia-ish shades.

What do you think? Am I totally delusional for hanging on to these puppies?

Welcome

I am addicted to interior design and home improvement. There, I said it. Most of my day is spent reading design blogs. I am totally hooked. The weird thing is that I can't seem to get my house decorated the way I want it to. I am never satisfied. My husband actually issued a moratorium on bringing more furniture home - I swear, I'm like one of those cat ladies - except that I hoard and collect furniture, not cats. I've decided that I should start my own blog to perhaps serve as an outlet to this addiction. Maybe it will help me get my home together in the process (also, it is much cheaper than buying furniture).
